Checking Blood

Instead of pricking a person or a child to see what their sugar levels are, is there a better way?  An example is for diabetics who need to be checked for their sugar levels.  Can we find out a blood type without actually touching the blood to diagnose it?  A great invention would be a hand held device that can have a beam of light shined on the skin to check the sugar level or blood type.  I like this idea because then you don't have to open up someone's skin.  Also the person can still sleep.  It would be nice if this can also be administered in the dark.  There has to be an easier way.  Even if it's a small device where you touch the person or child and find out the sugar levels or blood type then at the very least it's a step in the right direction.  Sometimes things don't change because we accept the way things are or don't question what we are doing.  There are better ways, we just need to find them.
